7. Appendix B: Suit Keywords

1. French keywords for suit cards, first Hearts (Coeurs), then Diamonds (Caros), then Clubs (Trèfles), then Spades (Piques). For each suit, the first list is from the first set in Le Bohemien, pp. 52-53, presumably by Etteilla 1753-1757, and the second from the second set in the same "Le Petit Etteilla" essay, but at pp. 59-62.

2. Italian keywords for the suit cards, from Pratesi for the eighteenth-century sheet and Vitali and Zanetti for three later sets of meanings handwritten on Bolognese Tarocchini cards.[1]

In the lists below, the Bolognese cartomancy sheet is first, then in parentheses the meanings written on three packs of double-headed Bolognese cards: (1) of the first quarter of the nineteenth century; (2) of the third quarter of the nineteenth century, and (3) of 1920.
